Crockpot Pulled Pork Sliders

Football season is one of my favorites, and hosting friends at home makes it even better. The food is often the highlight, and these pulled pork sliders are always a crowd-pleaser. They’re easy to prepare, can be mostly hands-off in the crockpot, and taste great with a cold Coca-Cola® or Sprite®.

The pork cooks slowly in the crockpot, so you can start it in the morning and have tender, shreddable meat ready by game time. Adding Coca-Cola® gives the pork a subtle sweetness and helps tenderize the meat—making it juicy and flavorful.

I picked up a 30-pack of Coca-Cola® Minis and a 35-pack of Sprite® at Sam’s Club for great value. Sam’s Club offers convenient Club Pick Up and a handy Scan & Go feature in the app that lets you scan items as you shop and pay through the app, then skip the checkout lines at the door. It’s a real time-saver for party prep.

How to make pulled pork sliders:

  • Chop a large white onion and place it in the bottom of the crockpot.
  • Rub the seasoning mix over the pork shoulder and place it on top of the onions.
  • Pour Coca-Cola® over the pork shoulder and set the crockpot to cook.
  • When the pork is fully cooked, shred it with forks and remove any large pieces of fat.
  • Build your sliders with pulled pork, cheese, onions, and BBQ sauce, and serve with a cold Coca-Cola® or Sprite®.

Should I cook the pork on low or high?

Cooking on low for a longer period produces the most tender, fall-apart pulled pork. If you’re short on time, cooking on medium/high for 4–6 hours still delivers delicious results, but the longer, lower-temperature method is preferred for maximum tenderness.

Why use Coca-Cola®?

Coca-Cola® serves as both an acid and a sweetener in this recipe. The acidity helps break down tougher fibers in the pork shoulder while the sugars add flavor and contribute to a juicy, caramelized finish when finished with BBQ sauce.

Notes

Recipe Notes
*The Coca-Cola® acts as an acid and a sweetener to help break down the tougher parts of the pork shoulder and make it juicy and delicious.
**A lower temperature and slower cooking time produces more tender pulled pork, though a shorter 4–6 hour cook on medium/high will still yield tasty results.
