Cherry Vanilla Float – a refreshing twist on the classic soda float, made with cherry topping and Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float soda.
With the kids home for the summer, I’ve been looking for simple, fun activities that bring back the same warm memories I had as a child. Pinterest is great for ideas, but I find the most meaningful moments come from the small traditions my mother started for us. I grew up in the 80s and loved the 90s — I still listen to music from that era and enjoy digging up nostalgic crafts. Recently I had the kids make Rexlace key chains (also known as gimp or boondoggle), which sparked memories of long summer afternoons spent crafting together. Another favorite memory is making soda floats in our backyard. My mother would set out the ingredients and let us pour the soda while we watched it foam up the glass. With temperatures soaring into the low 100s, it felt like the perfect time to recreate that tradition.
We recently tried the limited edition Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float and wanted to pair it with a complementary flavor. My daughter suggested cherry, and everyone loved the combination. To make these floats, we drizzled cherry topping inside the glass so it would settle and mingle with the soda as it was poured. You can use cherry pie topping, cherry syrup, or even cherry juice—whatever you prefer or can find at the grocery store. The Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float soda is available at select Safeway and Albertson locations.
