Dirty Shirley Cocktail Recipe with Vanilla Vodka — Adult Party Drink

A Dirty Shirley Cocktail is the adult take on the fizzy, cherry-topped drink many of us remember from childhood. Made with vanilla vodka, grenadine, maraschino cherry and ginger ale (or ginger beer for more spice), it’s bright, refreshing and easy to make—and might quickly become a new favorite.

For this recipe you’ll need: vanilla vodka, maraschino cherries, grenadine, ginger ale or ginger beer (the spicier the better), and ice

Grown Up Version of Your Childhood Fav

Going out to a restaurant used to feel like a special event—dressing up, sitting politely and, if you were lucky, getting a Shirley Temple. That pretty red, fizzy mocktail with a cherry felt grown up. The Dirty Shirley keeps that nostalgic flavor but adds an adult twist: vodka and a little extra depth from quality grenadine and ginger ale or beer.

Use a good grenadine and a ginger beer if you like a bit of bite—both make a noticeable difference in the final drink.

Many variations call for cherry vodka, but vanilla vodka works especially well here. It adds a warm, subtle sweetness without overpowering the grenadine. If you prefer, plain vodka is also a great choice—use what you enjoy.

Dirty Shirley Cocktail Recipe

This version is written for one serving. I prefer ginger beer for the extra spice, but lemon-lime soda works if you want a milder profile. The recipe is quick—about five minutes from start to finish.
