The Best Garlic and Herbs Flatbread
Are we ever tired of bread, pasta, or potatoes? I don’t think so. Today I’m sharing my favorite Garlic and Herbs Flatbread. Whoop-whoop!
Bread accompanies almost every meal in my house — we love it. This flatbread is perfect alongside Italian classics like skillet lasagna or baked tortellini. It’s best served warm, so I usually bake it about 20–30 minutes before dinner. If I don’t, my family can’t resist tearing pieces off the moment it comes out of the oven and slathering it with cream cheese or butter.

If you make this flatbread, I bet you’ll be tempted to sneak a small piece to taste. The aroma while it bakes is incredible — your home will smell like a cozy Italian restaurant, especially if there’s pasta simmering nearby.
The scent of garlic, herbs, and warm bread wraps through the kitchen and beyond. There’s nothing more tempting than hot bread straight from the oven.

This recipe is straightforward. The only slightly challenging part is kneading the dough until it forms a smooth, barely sticky ball — about 10–12 minutes by hand. If you have a stand mixer with a dough hook, it makes the job much easier, but hand-kneading works fine too.
You don’t need fancy equipment—just a deep bowl, measuring cup, wooden spoon, baking pan, and parchment paper if your pan isn’t nonstick.

Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 tsp garlic-parsley powder (sodium-free)
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 packet (2 tsp) fast-rise dry yeast
- 2 tsp honey + 1/2 tsp sugar with a splash of warm water
- 1 3/4 cups lukewarm water
- 1/4 cup olive oil + 1 tbsp
TOPPING:
- Italian herb mix
- Dry basil
- Garlic-parsley powder
- Grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 4 cups of flour with the garlic-parsley powder and salt. Mix well and make a well in the center.
- In a small cup, dissolve 2 teaspoons of honey and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar with a splash of lukewarm water.
- Add the yeast to the flour, then pour the honey mixture over it. Wait 15–20 seconds.
- Begin adding lukewarm water gradually while mixing with a wooden spoon. When the dough starts to come together, begin kneading. About halfway through kneading, add half of the olive oil.
- Knead for about 10 minutes more, or until the dough is smooth and no longer very sticky.
- Pour in the remaining olive oil, cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid, and place it on a clean towel in a warm spot. Let the dough rise about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- After rising, prepare the herbs and cheese and preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C / gas mark 7).
- Line your baking pan with parchment paper. If your pan is flat, dust lightly with flour and roll the dough directly on the pan. If the pan has sides, roll the dough on a floured surface and transfer it to the pan. Prick the dough with a fork, then sprinkle evenly with the herb mix, dry basil, garlic-parsley powder, grated Parmesan, and a few drizzles of olive oil. This dough also makes a great pizza crust.
- Allow the dough to rise briefly while the oven preheats, then bake for about 30–35 minutes, or until the crust turns a light golden color.
- Let the flatbread rest for at least 10 minutes before cutting. Cover it with a large kitchen towel to keep warm.
- Serve with your meal or enjoy with marinara sauce for dipping.
